Sounds like the classic Chevy truck hot starting problems. After an extended running time the starter and solenoid which are mounted together next to the exhaust manifold become heat soaked. Turn the key and ........nothing. Let it cool for about 10-15 min. and it will start. I don't know the exact physics of what's going on but the fix is to remotely mount the solenoid in a cooler location.
