I had that wet-starting problem with my car ('87 900i) and after I had covered the usual: distributor cap, rotor, plug wires and plugs, it still wouldn't start. The problem seemed to be that the ignition coil had been overheated since it sits on top of the radiator, and my car had been running hot frequently for some time (I now I need a new radiator), so the silicon between the coil top and it's body had dried out and fallen to pieces, leaving the moist free to find its way in there. Not a very frequent problem, I've heard, but if your radiator is anything but fine, maybe you want to check this possibility out.
