Subject: 9000 steering column adjustment???

I have an '89 9000T and I want to move the steering wheel closer to the driver. The wheel on this car is "nonadjustable", but I took off the plastic trim panel underneath the steering column and the column is clearly on what looks to be an adustable rail. Does anyone know whether that is truly a mechanism for adjustment, or if it is just part of the collapsing mechanism for the wheel? I don't want to be messing with this if it's not explicitly for adjustment. Thanks, Tim stearnsnopsamford.edu
