Subject: Please HELP ME!!!!

I had my 88 9000T looked at by a mechanic because my car would start up then just die..No fuel..When I try it at a later point it starts right up.My mechanic put a pressure gauge up to the fuel line to find out that it slowly works its way to working PSI. then starts..He is still unsure what to do..So i am asking you...Do i need a new fuel pump.Could there be something else that is causing this.He mentioned a pressure valve or something could be stuck open...I am looking to have my fuel pump replaced..Is this the right decision.. Brad
