This is a well known problem on the 900, it is the expansion valve opening and closing (the expansion valve is opening and closing depending on theamount of refrigerant needed, i.e. it is engaged only when cooling). I know that there have been some work trying to solve this problem but do not know if it is on the market, call or visit your dealer. They will know. In the diesel engine (Europe only) there is a different type of expansion valve with a stiffer spring fot the "needle" in the expansion valve. Good luck Anders Johansson >hello all: > >i have a '98 900 SE turbo ... > >my A/C system works very good except for this hissing sound every couple of >minutes.... it sounds like a valve that opens and closes .... i'm not good >at sound effects but it is a "psssttt" sound and it drives me crazy. > >of course, the dealer says he's never heard it... impossible!!! > >.....it only happens when the system is in cooling a/c mode with the air >coming out from the vents facing the passengers ... i.e. NOT on top or >bottom... > >has this happended to anyone else ?? and if so is there a cure??? > >many thanks in advance >izzet > >
