It is NOT normal! I had a '94 900SE V-6 and now have a '98 900S Turbo. While the hydraulic clutch on the '98 is lighter than the cable-operated clutch on the '94, the '94 clutch was not overly stiff. The cable-operated clutches had problems with breaking cables. It is possible yours is binding somewhere. -- John R.
