I just purchased an 88' Saab 900s 16 valves, Non-turbo, over 140K on it, it got an oil leak from the head gasket, the oil drips onto the side of the engine (right above the spark plugs) and burns and the smoke gets into the car which can be very annoying. A Saab mechanic told me that this is a very common problem in all 88' Saabs, the repair would cost about $500.00. Another mechanic told me that it would cost about $750.00, he also claims that 80% of all the Saabs he services in his shop are because oil leaks!!!, they also would need to plane the head or resurfacing??? whatever that means.
