I believe that I once read in a car magazine several years ago that Saab considered adding AWD to their cars, but after testing and considering the extra weight, mechanical complexity, and expense they add to a car, they decided to leave well enough alone. There are very few places on a road that you can't go in a Saab with FWD and four snow tires. I find that a lack of traction only becomes a problem when I have insufficient ground clearance. This is a problem that all-wheel drive will not remedy anyway. In case you're curious, one of the car magazines (Automobile?) did a test between comparable models of cars with and without AWD. For example, they tested an FWD A4 against one with Quattro. They found that AWD is only of major benefit a) during acceleration and b) if you have to climb particularly steep hills in snow. In terms of normal handling, FWD with snows should be sufficient for most driving conditions. Remember that AWD is a drag (literally) all year round, while snow tires come off in the spring. ---------- In article <7lfdb5$37a$1nopsamux.ip-plus.net>, "IZZO" <IZZET3nopsamAIL.COM> wrote: > hello all, > > has Saab ever made a 4X4 version of any models?? > > does anyone know if they are planning to or will be making a 4X4 version? > > many thanks > izzo > >
