Subject: Re: '95 V6 900 Problematic?

I've got a 94 900S with the V6 and have had some problems. The V6 has a very bad reputation for it's timing belt; mine has been replaced twice. Not a big deal, except that the second time it was replaced along with an entire engine. Some water got in during the winter, froze, caused the timing belt to skip, and given it's an interference engine, the valves and pistons had a fist fight = new engine. A total fluke, but I believe the V6 is predisposed to timing belt problems (there has been a recall on the timing belt). No complaints about power (190hp with some tweaks, I think 170 is the factory spec; very nice, and smooth) or fuel mileage (30MPG overall, including Canadian winters - I can see high 30s on warm summer days). I certainly wouldn't give up my 6 for the base 4, but if you can find a turbo 4, I'd probably go that route. Good luck; Scott.
