Subject: Re: Help! Va speeding ticket

I once received a ticket in Chester Va with my cruise set to 62 in a 55. The officer stated that I was doing 67. After a little investgation on my part it showed taht the speedometer was off by 5mph. I checked it like this. Find a pretty level road for at least a stretch for a few miles. Set the cruise for 60 mph and time yourself within the mile marker. If you finish before a minute then your speedo could be at fault. I have been told by many folks that tire size and even the age of the car over time can effect speedo performance. But about the ticket, I live in NJ and I happened to be going back to VA for a wedding at that time and contested the ticket. I showed the judge a letter from my mechanic and they let me go. I just had to pay court cost $30.00. I hope this helps you. Be as prepared in court as possible. Good luck. dp
