Always err on the side of believing that little light!!! I would begin with the cheapest fix and work back from there, but don't drive the car with the oil pressure light on! Check with a pressure gague to see if you have any pressure. The oil pump is a candidate, but it is such an ingeniously simple yet effective system, it is unlikely to have failed unless something got into it. If you truly have no pressure, check to see that the sump screen in the crankcase has not gotten blocked with something, then check the oil pump. It is relatively easy to take access, but if you have never taken the valve covers off, or undone the AC compressor and alternator, let a mechanic do it. The chances are that someone did a sloppy valve cover gasket job (I see you had a head job recently), and the silicone has gotten cooked and brittle, broken off, and made its way into the oil flow system, probably blocking the sump screen where the oil is picked up from the crankcase. Here is a story for you: I bought an 85 900t 16v cheap, and apparently the guy who had it before knew nothing about SAABs and did not want to spend the money to have it maintained or repaired by someone qualified. 6 trouble free months after I bought it, I had just done an oil and filter change, and was tooling down the freeway on the way home. Boom, oil light comes on, and by the time I made my way over to the shoulder, the engine was making a god awful tappet noise. I towed the car in, tore it down, and lo and behold the sump screen was completely blocked by cooked silicone, which was also all over inside the valve covers. I don't know if how much longer the turbo will last, but I probably took some life off of the bearings. If you are able to run your car without getting lifter/tappet noise, and not ruining the turbo, I would bet $$ that your sump screen is partially blocked, enought that you are getting some oil to the engine, but pressure is low enough to cause the light to come on. That is where I would begin. Good luck, I would love to hear how it comes out!
