I went with an 8" bazooka bass tube. There are two models, an upper and lower (EL and RS - but I can't remember which is which)). I got the upper model with a more abuse resistant casing and don't have any problems with space. And it's VERY easy to remove if necessary (2 straps) from the trunk.
