The hydraulic clutch _is_ better than the cable, but it still should not be unbearably hard. My '94 was a bit firmer, but not "bad." Since you have a cable shifter, it may be the cable slack is taken up on some combinations of engine load and chassis flex, releasing the clutch a bit earlier in the pedal stroke and "popping" it as you describe. A soft/broken motor mount would be my first guess if the phenomenon is not supposed to be able to happen... -- John R.
