Subject: Re: Body Mounts????

Jim, No such thing as "body mounts" in that car. But, what he may have been talking about is the various rubber bushings in the suspension. The moving parts of the suspension (control arms, shocks, panhard rod, etc.) are all attached to the body via rubber bushings to reduce noise transmission into the car. Over time, these bushings tend to deteriorate, causing the suspension parts not to be attached to the car as "tightly" as they once were. Replacing the bad bushings can give a huge improvement in the car's handling and "road feel". This is a good news/bad news item - the good news is that the bushings are usually quite cheap. The bad news is that labor can be somewhat costly since some are a real bear to replace. Things I'd look for on your car: Front lower shock bushings (on an old car, your lucky to get 25K miles out of these) Front upper control arm bushings (tend to fail sooner on the passenger's side) Front upper shock bushings (maybe it's time to replace the shocks?) Front sway-bar bushings (center and ends) Rear trailing-link bushings (both ends) The bushings attaching the steering rack to the car can go soft too, but usually those get replaced with the rack. Hope this helps!
