Andy, The owners manuals say use 10W30 or 10W40, and that is all you need. My 83 900T had Castrol GTX 10W30 in the 5 spd. I changed the oil every 20,000 to 25,000 miles, and the 5 spd was still going strong after over 13 years and 251,000 miles, when the car was totalled in an accident. In some of the postings, those who have used gear oil and later switched to Redline MTL have regretted it. It has to do with depletion of the zinc in the synchros and their disintegration. Just stick with oil. I was using 4 oz. of Militec-1 in 5 spd. I put it in my 87 900S and I have it my 87 9000S.
