Subject: Ok, so I've picked up my Viggen. Thoughts...

I finally ditched Herb Chambers. I have never been so annoyed with a car dealership in my life. So I decided to call the oldest Saab dealership in America (40+ years) - Charles River Saab in Watertown, MA. "Hi, guys. Got any Viggens?" Why, yes! "Got any I could drive out with tonight?" Why, yes! One in the showroom (!) "Can you beat the offer Chambers made me?". I filled them in. Why, yes! I went down, traded in my car, and drove off with the Viggen. Identical the one I test drove at Chambers, but with fewer miles. This car is low. Real low. Watch those speedbumps and inclines low. And fast. 75 mph in third fast. Go up 25 degree curving inclines at 50 mph fast. Pass cars without thinking fast. Ok. So what can I compare it to? It feels a bit like the BMW 3 series cars, or more accurately, an older RX7 with regards to acceleration and handling. How is compared to the Aero? The 9000 turbo? The 9-5? I don't know. It's certainly more hair raising than the 6 cylinder 9-5 I test drove last week. Under the hood is a 2.3 liter turbo charged four cylinder. This car is a torque monster! Everything you've heard about the torque steering is true, but it's certainly not bad or difficult to deal with. You're so busy zipping along, that you don't notice excessive torque. The shifting is also just right. Not notchy, not rubbery, just fine. The car also has every single gadget Saab could cram into it, except rear heated seats. Do I care if my passengers have cold asscheeks? No. I don't. The trunk room is astounding. The rims are stunning. The Viggen logo? Tacky, but wonderful. I don't think I've ever seen so many people stare at anything I was driving. Not so much "wow!" stares but "what the hell is THAT?!" stares. The design certainly attracts attention. There are some minor gripes, but minor is the key word. No dead pedal. I have size 14 feet, and resting my foot that near the clutch at that angle could get a little fatiguing. The same goes for the "where the hell is the armrest?" design of the cabin. In a word - this is unlike anything I have ever driven in my life. I hope I can keep it on the road, and out of the air. -- {}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{} \|/ {} RogerW rogerwnopsamguy.com {} 0< -- parrot.net! {} http://www.parrot.net adminnopsamot.net {} ^^^^(*)^^^^ {}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{} ^^ / \ ^^
