Hi, I have an 85 900 turbo as well, and I am very familiar with the gear box noise. It sounds to my ears like a jet engin whine, and I have gotten used to it. Actually I think it sounds quite nice. The shifting is a bit knoby, especially first and second. And some times I get a clunking sound when shifting into reverse. It's all part of the earlier SAAB quirks.
