I have a 99 9-3 SE with all of the options. I did a bunch of research into the Saab's before buying it, and most of the problems with the line appear to have been around the early 90's, due to quality control problems, and a struggling Saab corporation. In my test drives, the automatic takes out a lot of the punch the base model Saab can deliver, smoothing it out across the gears. My wife offered to learn how to drive a 5 speed, rather than make me suffer with the automatic.
