Converting to automatic is not too difficult: you'll have to change the console & shift linkage, remove the clutch pedal and master cylinder. It's all modular. Most people who swap transmissions go the other way (auto -> 5spd). Who needs 2nd gear, anyway? You've got 4 other good ones...
