I had a similar problem on my 1985 900 Aero. I had replaced the headlamp bulbs with 130/100W globes. Great light but after a couple of months, either the high beams wouldn't come on, or would get stuck on or no lights at all. Turned out I had literally cooked the relay. When I cracked it open it was all nice and black and charred. Picked up a second hand relay for $50 Australian and replaced my globes with 90/100W and the lights worked great until the gearbox gave up. Traded it for a nice black 1990 900 Aero... Luv it!
