Dear Malcolm, A change of oil will probably help if the stuff in there already is old and poor quality. If you put in a good synthetic like mobil1 and there is still no improvement after a good runabout you can do the following. Run the engine until warm then take the camcover off (not while the engine is running obviously) get a blunt screwdriver and try to lever the edges of the tappets down when the cams are pointing away - rotate the engine using the lower sprocket bolt. You will easily be able to tell which ones are shot as they will move easily. You can get new ones from Eurocarparts or German and Swedish for about £10 each. Replacing them is fairly straightforwards - use the haynes manual for the exact method - one good tip is to lock the chain to the sprockets with cable ties. Good luck John
