I wonder why they would rather swap a car out rather than fix it? Is the green car a bit of a "dog" too, with no warranty? I assume that the warranty is not a Saab one, but a bought in one, which usually have very fine print!! Replacing a box isn't that difficult if you have the gear, did a 86 900 box in a day (reverse had gone) replace with a 2nd hand one bought for £50. I would suggest you try and find a secondhand box and see if they will fit it for free, or pay for it if you fit it as a way out.
