Subject: Saab 90 900s airbag computer

I have had an unusual experience - twice - with a 90 Saab 900s. About a year ago, I pull into the driveway, and with no warning, turning the key to off does NOT turn off the ignition. That is, the engine runs, the lights are still on, etc. You can remove the key and the car is still running. After a few moments, I kill the engine by letting out the clutch while in gear. When you restart, does it once again, and then after that everything is fine - EXCEPT the airbag warning light is flashing. Took it in to a reliable non-dealer Saab mechanic, and his computer indicates no data can be recalled from the airbag computer, hence faulty airbag computer. Replacement cost $900. Done. Fast forward 13 months. Just did it again. Exactly same sequence. (I'm not inclined to replace this thing again!) Is this really the airbag computer? If not, is there anyway to reset it if it got some kind of transient? Any ideas on what can by-pass the ignition switch? Any suggestions appreciated, Bob Meyer meyernopsamkson.edu
