When they launched the 9000 CD the car didn't have an extra letter in the title, never the less all the extras etc.. In 1992, when launching the 9000 CS, Saab decided to make a clear difference between the 'normal' model and the 'luxury' model for a fix price (you could of course add whatever you wanted on a normal model). The difference was the letter e (most of the time it was leather, wood, airco, ...). In 1994 when launching the new 900, the decided not to use the E but SE for the more luxury models. On some markets (like the belgian one) they also made a model S which had to do with the amount of luxury (more then base, less then SE) and had nothing to do with the s on the previous models meaning low pressure turbo). On the 9-5 they kept the SE for luxury. Therefore a 1990 9000 CD can be a CDE, but they didn't use the name before 1992. Johan 83 900 GLi (parts car) 88 900 i 94 9000 CS 94 9000 CSE
