David, When I was stationed in Crete, Greece, the car washes their did something similar. I was amazed at how they washed a car. First, it was throughly cleaned with plenty of soap and high pressure. The car was placed on a lift rack. Once the outside was cleaned and rinsed they would go underneath with a high pressure nozzle with kerosene and water. I was told this was done to retard rust, since we were on an island. It worked on my 72 Toyota Celica, until I totalled the car, and it worked on my replacement 78 Alfa Romeo GTV Coupe. I was there from 12/76 to 12/79 before transferring to Belgium, where I bought my first Saab in 1983.
