You can get HeliCoils (or equivalent) from your local auto parts shop that are used to repair stripped threads. You drill out the hole, use a special tap to cut new threads, then use a special tool to install a coil into the hole that restores the threads to the original... That said: I stripped the threads on the oil drain of our '76 99GLi, and my mechanic applied the fix outlined above. I was never able to get a really tight seal after that, but at least I didn't have to worry about the plug working loose and dumping the whole load of oil on the street. And, I was always cautious about never over-torquing the drain plug after that. When the transmission died at about 190K, we swapped it out and that fixed the problem...
