In Australia, where a vehicle is used, no more than 10 years old and has travelled less than 160,000km's (100,000miles) there is a statutory warranty which covers the vehicle for 3 months or 5000km's when sold by a LICENCED DEALER. This warranty applies regardless of any warranty the dealer may offer and is regarded as a term of the contract of sale. The Act specifies that the car is warrantied against defects so as to place the vehicle in a reasonable condition having regard to its age. (wide scope for dispute) The other day I noticed greese coming from my right inside CV boot, predominantly from the smell as it burnt off on the exhaust and I made the dealer aware that this had probably happened since after I took the car. They were immediately prepared to fix it, not even interested in why it was leaking. I dare say if it was a stone kicked up while driving (the most probable cause)this would be outside their obligation to repair. You may think, big deal what's a cv boot worth but since I live 190km's from the dealer they are paying a local volvo technician to repair it. Keeping in mind that I payed $11,000 for this car which is light years away from a new saab sale, even a simple repair like this will eat into their sale margin. I really appreciated the genuine way the service manager seemed pleased to assist me. Already I am thinking that when I'm ready to buy new I'll be in to see them first. That's how you do business in my books. If anyone is interested in the Australian "Motor Dealers Act", it is here http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/nsw/consol_act/mda1974154/index.html Particularly section 27 "obligation to repair" Dom :-) Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.
