I'm afraid I'd disagree with most of your points here... but your point about the local Saab dealer not being trustworthy are valid enough. Personally I find TCO of a Saab about equivalent or lower than a Volvo... a fact proven time and time again at a local shop where they often get Saabs and Volvos... and pound for pound the Volvos seem to cost inordinately more than the Saabs to fix. The frequency and severity of problems is about the same on both cars. I'd disagree with your mechanic too. As of the "NG" of Saab (roughly 1992 and up), most of their cars are really mechanically not that much different than every other car on the road. They're only different in the fact that they are tuned differently (more for reliability and low emissions than true out and out performance), and they have a few "different" details (like ignition in the center console etc.). Really they're just like most other cars out there from an engineering POV. Sure, they're tuned for pretty tight tolerances, but no more than Volvo's or Bimmers. I've found my 900 to be very reliable... and though I just went out and bought another car for work, it's not because of reliability on my Saab but more because with spending more time in the boondocks of Illinois I don't want to be trying to find a Saab dealership in Lincoln on a cold Saturday night... the Pontiac I just bought today can be fixed by Bubba and Joe :) Anyway, the choice is yours... and frankly if you're happy with Volvo's, then by all means stick with them. If you want to try a comparable and (IMO) more enjoyable vehicle, buy a Saab. -- Gavin Haslett thumper_svxnopsamo.com http://home.earthlink.net/~hackrat "Ahhhh...
