There was a recent report about event recorders on autos related to privacy issues on TV. To recap, it went like this: There is a box on late model cars which is part of the airbag deployment system. It records speed, seat belt use etc when an accident happens, which can then be retrieved as in plane crashes. They mentioned a case where this was used in a court trial where it disproved the idea that the airbag had deployed by accident causing the car to loose control and kill the driver. The auto manufacturers claim they have these installed in order to learn about accidents to redesign or find problems, not to legally protect themselves from reckless drivers... The big question as you may guess is, does late model Saab's have these installed? Being that GM seems to have installed these I'm not too hopeful that Saab doesn't.
