Subject: rookie owner of an 88 classic cabrio

Hello all, I've enjoyed the last few months of In fact, this newsgroup was one of the factors leading to why I bought my '88 900 automatic turbo convertible. I've inherited quite a legacy of cosmetic problems, but glad to say not many mechanical ones. One that is bugging me is that at low speeds accelerating causes my belts to squeal. Is this just a case of loose belts, or do I have a component problem? Otherwise, I love my new baby and can't keep my foot off the pedal. I wish the engine didn't rev so high at top speeds, as I'm sure the fuel is just being sucked out of the tank. The bumpers (front and rear) are pretty scratched up and dinged, and I was wondering if there were any cool aftermarket trim packages for the classic 900s. I love that suggestion to take my car to a quick-lube place and not remind them to check the gearbox fluid level. The cap is hidden enough to baffle even the most experienced high schooler working at those places. Maybe as my auto tranny goes, I'll be visiting more and more $19.95 oil change places. I'm planning on making the switch to manual anyway. By the way, what's the cruising rpm of the 5th gear in other manual classic 900 saabs? Keep up the good posts, and I'm glad I made the upgrade from an '87 VW Jetta to this fine automobile. Maybe when I can afford comprehensive I'll look at the brand new 9-3s Rob
