You two have really cheered me up now! I have a '91 9000S 2.3 Turbo that's doing 27mpg around town and up to 36mpg on a long motorway run. I thought that wasn't very good, but it obviously is!! Mind you, when I reset the fuel display and then did a (very) high speed run along one particular section of road at night, Imanaged to average 8mpg over 10 miles!
