Although the cars are necessarily compromised by having to use bits from the GM parts bin, Saab's engineers seem to be remaining true to the philosophy which has always characterised the cars; the emphasis on safety is still there, the cars still make better long-distance cruisers than traffic-light dragsters, the ergonomics are typically (sound) Saab. The 9-5 Aero is IMO as true a Saab as any; efficient torque-laden 4-cylinder Turbo engine, fast, supremely comfortable for a long journey, understated but sporting appearance, and a typically Saab interior, with a sort of Swedish style about it that could only be Saab. IMO the 9-3, while not in any sense a bad car, is making the best of a bad job; the 900 on which it was based was a bit of a rushed job, and was perhaps not the best thing Saab ever did, but considering the basis from which they had to work, Saab's engineers have ended up with a more than respectable car in the 9-3. Why do you feel GM's influence to be bad? Surely better the GM- influenced Saab we have now than no Saab at all? -- Regards Leroy Curtis Please replace "nospam" with "baram" in my address if you wish to reply by Email
