Your piston needs to be pushed back into the cylinder before you can put the new pads in. A C-clamp or a pair of channel locks will do the job. You must be sure to remove the corrosion before you push the piston back in. Also, be sure not to damage the rubber boot. On one sonnet brake job, I had a hose that would let me put the brake on, but would not let the brake fluid return to the reservoir when the brake was released. The hose had collapsed internally.
