<Snip> John, Do you get a low bang/thumping kind of noise when it's idling? Open the bonnet and have a listen. I have used a screwdriver pressed to the ear to listen to the internals. if it's a low down thump rather than rattling valves then a big end has probably gone. Don't if possible drive it around as you will end up doing alot of damage. Afraid it's an engine out/strip down job. If You catch it early enough you should get away with a grankshaft re- grind and oversized big end shells. Other wise it may be a new crank.... Look into 2nd hand engines (Breakers/Scrap) or re-conditioned exchange if you don't want to/have the time/equipement to rebuild your own. The only other thing it could be the gearbox about to let go, IE a bearing going if it isnt there all the time or only when moving. Good luck Malc Scotland Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.
