I've had the same problem. After trying everything and in combination with being just lazy, I have found that a detailer's clay bar works the best. It shears away treesap and other goop, leaving a clean surface without a lot of 'elbow grease.' Since then, I have resisted buying a car cover in favour of waxing the car once a month. Also being lazy, I use spray wax. No longer do I need a nap afterwards like when I used to use carnuba paste.
