Norm, I have a 97NG900 turbo with 215/45/ZR17 S-02s on 17x8" BBS RKs. You may have handling problems with the 235 set-up. Keeping the tire diameter the same only guarantees that the speedo and odo will operate properly. A 235 wide setup bends the sidewalls inwards over an inch, putting stress on the sidewalls, affecting air volume, pneumatic cushioning, and lateral handling. If you are looking at a wider tire - presumably for better handling - you should follow the plus sizing method. This will give you the wider footprint you are looking at, plus faster steering response due to the shorter sidewalls. You might also want to look at installing a set of Konis and lowered springs. Saabs are difficult to fit for rims due to their peculiar offset and of bolt pattern. With a larger rim, you have increased unsprung weight. The BBS RKs are good in that they are one of the lightest rims available today - short of going magnesium. ... now if only Saabs came with locking diffs....
