Subject: Diagnose "Check Engine" light without special tools?

The "Check Engine" light came on in my '94 900S (non-turbo 4cyl) last night. Can the failure code be coaxed out of the computer without any special tool? On my old Dodge, turning the ignition on and off several times in rapid succession (without starting the engine) would cause the failure code to be blinked out on the Check Engine light. The dealer service folks say that so long as there's no driveability problem, there's no hurry to get the car in and have me booked for next Monday. I assume the light will stay on until it's reset, even if the problem was transient. -- -- Bert Hyman | St. Paul, MN | bertnopsam.com
