Subject: Re: I wish to buy a Saab 93 SE ti diesel

Hello J.J. Before buying my 9-3 2.0t 154hp, I testdrove the 2.2TiD, just after testdroven a 9-5 2.3t 170hp for my father. The 2.2TiD was extremely responsive, smooth, powerful and even almost sporty. You almost forget that the engine is a diesel... until you reach the red zone (4500rpm) and the rev' limiter. The diesel typical noise is clearly noticeable when the engine is cold, but you don't hear it anymore on the road when the engine is warm. Fuel consumption is interesting of course. Why did I finally choose the 2.0t 154hp then? Well, because I wanted an automatic, and the auto box was not available with the 2.2TiD. Too bad... The diesel would have been my first choice. Anyway, whatever engine you'll choose, purchasing a 9-3 is itself a good decision. Mine (6 months old and 8000km on the clock) is a great car and is bullet-proof so far. Oh BTW: take the ACC if you can, it is very efficient. And the AC manual knobs tend to break... Luc Tintillier 1999 9-3S 2.0t 154hp Auto "Saabine" Brussels, Belgium
