Subject: Re: 10W-30 better than 5W-30?

Magic2626 Thanks for your illuminating contribution.I am very interested in this subject. When you service your car at a dealer, you don't really know what oil they put in. When you say multi-vis, don't you really mean multi-grade ? A 5W-30 oil will have a narrower viscocity range than a 10W-30 by the definition of these numbers. The reference is a single grade oil which has a nominal large viscocity range, thus multi-grades were introduced in order to narrow the viscocity range. For this reason I was considering using a syntetic Mobil 0W-40 for my SAAB because of cold and short driving, but you explain that viscocity and lubrication performance are not necessarily the same thing. So what do you think is the best oil for leasurely city driving ? Johannes Magic2626 wrote: > > What Kind of Oil? >
