A dealer which services both Saabs and Volvos explained the shorter lifespan of Saabs as being due to the more aggressive way they are driven. What you may be noticing is the older Volvos, because they last longer, are being given to teenagers in hopes that they will live long enough to learn how to drive. So what you see may not be deliberately planned maneuvers, but inexperience and that immortality that so many teenagers have when they get behind the wheel. P.S. I am basing this on experience. I was a teenage driver once and I learned to drive in a Volvo. I survived and have a healthy respect for the damage that can be done by a car.
