<Snip> Ed, Besides all the usual checks for leaks in hoses/radiator and make sure the radiator fan is working (jump the switch in the radiator) I would check the water pump. If the bearings are failing water will escape and if they are far enough gone the pump vanes will hit the casing resulting in the noises described. Also check the pulley wheels and belt (s) which could be the squeaking noise, caused by slipping belt(s) and/or the fact they are now out of line. When you say you just bought it was it from a dealer or private and "As Is"?? How long ago as you may be able to make a warranty claim. Anyway the pump is relatively easy to change and relatively cheap.
