This was my problem too. 1991 900s 3 door. Read on this group that it was probably the power steering pump. I replaced mine. $95 for the part. Real bitch to change out. Took me 2 days. The car now steers and sounds beautiful. The temperature has been about 3 degrees F around here the last few days.
