I have a 96 900SE also, and the only major thing I have had worked on is the gear shift. It was having trouble going into 5th, and the dealer replaced some parts. Now it is working fine. I have about 36,000 miles, and everything else is fine. I changed the tires a little early because I cut one on a curb, but you will probably need to look at that soon if you still have the original tires.
