Hi, Wonder why using steel rims would worsen ABS performance (or ruin the ABS). I wouldn't mind hearing your tyre dealer's explanation for that one! Have _you_ noticed any ABS failures when braking on ice? Our 9-3 is shod with steel rims and 185/65 x 15 winter tyres and the ABS works well under all conditions. Over here (Sweden) a clear majority of winter tyres (both studded and unstudded) are mounted on steel rims, even if the summer tyres on the same car would be on alloy rims. Might have to do with the effects of salt and sand on alloy rims, or the fact that winter road dirt is so gunky that the rims become hard to clean. Could also be a cost issue - no point using flashy rims if the sun's up for only 0 to 6 hours per day (late December) depending on where you live - no one will see them anyway . . .
