Subject: Is Saab currently owned by GM?

There are multiple references to the fact that GM currently owns Saab in this newsgroup. Maybe I missed a key fact on Saab's web site, but originally, I had heard that GM owned some Saab stock, but Saab was Saab. I was under the impression that FUTURE Saab cars might have the GM touch, but not current cars. Now I am seeing messages in this group recommending that people buy older Saabs and not the new "GM" Saabs. This disturbs me because I just bought a 2000 93 and I'm beginning to get the feeling that I'm not getting the true Saab experience. It is starting to feel domestic. What is the case? Does GM own and/or control Saab, and if so, what changes has it made? I'm a little disturbed to learn that my 2000 93 might in fact be a GM vehicle. I purposely bought a Saab because I wanted a non-kmart car. While I am pleased with the car, I'll never be able to get rid of the psychological stench of GM that will linger in my mind if it is in fact true that GM owns Saab and GM had something to do with my car. I'll always be wondering if my car is not playing with a full Saab deck. If anyone has any details on what has been changed with Saabs since GM became involved, please respond to the group. Thanks, -Jason P.S. I'm already beginning to wonder if the retarded premature "Shift Up" light is a GM contribution. I'll be in therapy for months...
