I had the same thing happen on my '87 900S. It was a combination of me trying to drive it too much like a Honda (going too far over) and the shift linkage needing alignment. To get the linkage adjusted, I recommend going to a mechanic that specializes in Saabs and Volvos, but NOT a dealer. I was charged only $40 to have this done.
