The reason is that these windows provided a great way to break into the car. When I was in high school, there were 4 guys with Saabs, all OG900's. One was a 4 door, the rest were 3 doors. By the time I graduated, every one of the 3 door hatchbacks had been broken into at least once (one poor guy had it happen 3 times!). From what I understand, those windows are easy to open from the outside; then just reach forward, and pull the lock...
