Subject: Re: Need A Strange Tool to Fix Brakes

<Snip> Jim, Everybody's suggestions are valid, we've all been there with saab brakes! A set of 90 degree circlip pliers with the points ground off do the bizz for me. They also allow you to leaver against the disk as you screw CLOCKWISE the piston in. Don't go too far or the seal will leak, just enough so that the piston is flush with the caliper face. If they are quite old the yoke might not move, so you can only get a pad on the caliper side. One trick is to wind in the piston alittle more, put in a new pad on the cliper side and then tap the yoke, don't hit the handbrake lever. This should move the yoke enough to get the outer pad in. If not take the new pad out, screw the piston in abit more and repeat. I just did this this weekend on my 1986 900 (170K miles). One other thing to do is to pull the handbrake levers back to their fully "off" position as this helps with the handbrake adjustment later. To do both sides, which you should, took me about 1/2 hour. Hope this helps Malc Scotland Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.
