I've owned both a 3.0l Alfa 164 and (currently) a SAAB 9000 Carlssen. Both lovely cars, but the SAAB has the edge. Specifically, it is larger (particularly in headroom, especially for rear-seat passengers), and (at least in my case) the paintwork of the SAAB is far superior (my Alfa had dreadful stone chipping on the front of the bonnet when I sold it at 7 years old with 140k miles). FWIW, I had more complaints of car sickness from passengers in the 164. Mechanically, however, the 164 was very good. I'd guess that the SAAB has cost me more in unexpected repairs, and it's not been too bad. I'd recommend either, however. I've always wanted to try a Fiat Chroma or a Lancia Thema too! -- Richard Tibbetts http://www.primepeace.ltd.uk/ Feeling generous? Then see http://www.ppeace.demon.co.uk/richardt.htm#swimathon
