I agree. If the front mount loses it's juice, the clunk and the rocking shifter lever will certainly result. Did you lose traction on a hump in the road under hard acceleration in the recent past? Wheels unload, then load up HARD? That's how I ruptured my front mount on my '86 a few years ago...
